CHARTER AMENDMENT TO ALLOW
NON-CITIZENS TO VOTE IN TOWN ELECTIONS
 
Pursuant to Maryland Code, § 4-304 of the Local Government Article, there will be a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Town of Cheverly, Maryland’s Charter to permit residents who are not citizens to vote in Town elections provided they are otherwise qualified.

  3. M&C briefing NDC, Kilmer Park - Neighborhood Design Center (NDC) Programs Director, Marita Roos, PLA AICP, will present an outline of the 6301 Kilmer - Community Engagement & Landscape Design Process. Ms. Roos will briefly describe the original (delayed) community process and solicit input in conceptualizing how to best move forward with a successful engagement process in the time of COVID-19. NDC will work closely with the Green Infrastructure Committee on the community process. (The 2.3-acre wooded property, a former home site, was acquired by the Town for open space and preservation of tree canopy. Recently, the site has been planted with fruiting “food forest” plants and donated canopy trees.)
  4. Board of Elections Supervisors - The Board of Elections Supervisors will provide an update to Mayor and Council.
  5. COVID-19 Update - Town Administrator Galloway - will provide a report to the Mayor and Council of actions taken under the COVID-19 state of emergency.
  6. Liquor Board Hearing - Mayor and Council will receive an update from Town Administrator on liquor board hearing scheduled for August 25, 2020. Tropicana Grill and Food Market, LLC, t/a Tropicana Grill and Food Market, 3505 Maryland Avenue, Cheverly, 20785 and Rincon Escondido Deli Bar and Restaurant, LLC, t/a Rincon Escondido Deli Bar 5 701 Columbia Road, Hyattsville, 20785 will be applying for a Class B, Beer, Wine, and Liquor license. Town Administrator will also provide an update on Fratelli’s Restaurant.
  7. Town Calendar - The Mayor and Town Administrator will present a rough draft of a M&C Town Calendar through the end of the fiscal year.
  8. Town Priorities - The Mayor and Town Administrator will present draft priorities through the end of the fiscal year based on discussion from the Mayor and Council retreat and informed by COVID-19 and the Town’s FY21 budget.
  9. Impending Eviction Crisis - The Mayor will address the impending COVID-19 related eviction crisis threatening families and economic recovery in our municipalities and across our County.
  10. Resolution in defense of Black lives - Mayor and Council will briefly review (15 minutes) initial contributions for consideration in drafting a Resolution in Defense of Black Lives, expressing “a commitment to enacting policies that unequivocally defend Black life and aim to undo the effects of systemic racism affecting Black people in the Town of Cheverly.”
  11. Review of September Town Meeting draft agenda and future requests - The Mayor and Town Administrator will offer a forecast of the September Town Meeting agenda. Mayor will seek Council input on agenda items for consideration for future Worksessions.
