Mail-In Voting

Any registered Cheverly voter may request a mail-in ballot in lieu of voting in-person on Election Day.
 
How to vote by mail
 
Step 1: Fill out a Mail-In Ballot Request form. You can obtain the form by one of the following:
 
Step 2: Return the signed Mail-In Ballot Request form to Town Hall in one of the following ways:
 
  • Mail the form to The Town of Cheverly, 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD 20785
  • Drop the form off at Town Hall in a receptacle mounted on the wall outside the front doors
  • Scan the form and email it to election@cheverly-md.gov
Applications must be received by Town Hall no later than April 24, 2023. It is highly recommended that any application submitted after April 17, 2023 should opt for in-person pick-up.
 
Step 3: You should receive your ballot in the manner that you requested on the form:
 
  • By mail to the address indicated
  • By picking it up in person at Town Hall. You will be notified when your ballot is ready for pick-up based on the preferred contact methods indicated on the form.
Mail-In ballots will be available for receipt no earlier than March 27, 2023.
 
Step 4: Vote by returning your filled out ballot in the provided envelope in any of the following ways:
 
  • By mail to The Town of Cheverly, 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD 20785
  • By dropping the envelope into the Town of Cheverly ballot box which will be posted in front of Town Hall from April 3, 2023 to May 1, 2023.
Mail-in ballots must be received by the time the polls close on Election Day at 8 pm on May 1, 2023.
 
How are mail-in ballot applications processed?
All applications for mail-in ballots will be processed and reviewed by the Board of Election Supervisors for eligibility and approval within four (4) business days after the date they are received. In the event of an issue in the approval process, the applicant will be notified by the Town Clerk who may provide steps towards resolving the issue.
 
Who may be designated to pick up mail-in ballots in-person?
The person designated to pick up the mail-in ballot on someone else’s behalf cannot be any of the following: the mayor, a member of the town council, any candidate for the office of mayor or town council, or a member of the immediate family of any of the aforementioned.
 
Can I vote in-person if I never received my mail-in ballot?
Yes, you may vote in-person on Election Day provided the requested mail-in ballot has not yet been returned to Town Hall. All mail-in ballots received are cross-referenced with in-person voters to assure that no voter can cast multiple ballots.
