Message from the Chief
Chief Jarod J. Towers

Earlier this evening the Cheverly Police Department took part in a community Zoom meeting, hosted by our policy consultant Ms. Ganesha Martin. This meeting was convened as part of our department’s commitment to listening to our resident’s input and being inclusive of our community’s values, as they pertain to policing here in Cheverly.

Shortly after convening, the meeting was hijacked by a hacker, and our community was subjected to racist, vulgar, and disgusting language. I would like to take this moment to sincerely apologize to those who were witness to this heinous act.

The Cheverly Police Department and I condemn this racial bigotry. We stand with our residents and have zero tolerance for these acts within our community.

We are aware of other instances of Zoom meetings being hijacked and I have been in contact with our partners from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information about this act is asked to contact us at 301-341-1055 or tips@cheverlypolice.org.

Rest assured, we will not be deterred, and our residents can expect to see information regarding a new meeting within the next 24 hours.

Sincerely,

Colonel Jarod J. Towers
Chief of Police
Cheverly Police Department
