Cheverly Planning Board Meeting Minutes

March 3, 2020

 

Planning board attendees: Jeremy Coon, Abel Olivo, Joyce Tsepas, Megan Mattaliano Kiel
 
1.  Review and approve previous meeting minutes
  1. February minutes approved.
2.  Council presentation debrief/follow-up
  1. Discussed review of Transportation Master Plan follow-up and revisiting the following considerations for Columbia Bridge Enhancements:
    1. Gateway Design
    2. Redevelopment
    3. Evacuation Route
    4. Bridge Geometry
    5. Truck Routing
  2. Discussed supplemental information for zoning amendment process:
    1. When considering extension of mixed-use zone at Cheverly Metrorail Station (World Recycling), it would be useful to share Cheverly walkshed. Joyce will circulate.
  3. Discussed Planning Board’s role in historic preservation conversation:
    1. Role is to be aware of preservation considerations as they relate to the Cheverly Sector Plan.
  4. Discussed opportunity to consider thematic work sessions with Council (transportation, redevelopment, etc.) to prioritize and advance Sector Plan recommendations.  
3.  Discussed need/opportunity for planning board to develop vision/goals statement, and identify targeted priorities for example:
  1. Pedestrian Connection to Ward 5
  2. Craftsman Building Reorientation
  3. Columbia Bridge Next Steps
  4. Public Realm Enhancement Pilot Projects
4.  Planning Board Documents
  1. Margaret created a Google Groups account
  2. Propose using Google Drive for sharing files
  3. Consider bringing print outs of materials to meetings for those who are not on the Planning Board Google Group
5.  Process for becoming a planning board member
  1. Group would like to review and discuss in April
