Interagency Cooperation Leads to Apprehension of Burglary Suspect

Public Release

On Tuesday, July 20th, at approximately 9:00 am, officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of State Street for a burglary. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that an unknown suspect forced entry into the victims’ residence, through a basement door, stole an iPhone and a bicycle, and fled the area via the stolen bicycle. Investigations placed the actual occurrence of the crime at approximately 2:00 am that morning.

During their investigation, officers from the Cheverly Police Department (CPD) learned that one of the victims was tracking the stolen iPhone. This information was relayed to the Prince George’s County Police Department whose officers were able to respond to the area in question where they observed a single individual with the tracked iPhone on their person. That individual was taken into custody and ultimately turned over to the Cheverly Police Department.

CPD detectives, through their investigation, located surveillance video from the area of the burglary that positively identified the individual as the suspect who fled the scene on the victim’s bicycle.
