A Message from Chief Jarod J. Towers
The Cheverly Police Department wants to ensure everyone that we still have the community’s safety at the forefront of our daily activities. With so many individuals affected by Governor Lawrence J. Hogan’s most recent Executive Order (Number 20-03-30-01), dated March 30, 2020, we want to remind everyone to stay vigilant during these times.
We encourage everyone to check their vehicles, to ensure nothing is missing, check their doors before turning in for the night, to ensure nothing remains unlocked, check on your neighbors (utilizing appropriate social distancing techniques) with either a phone call or text message, and encourage them to do the same.
In addition, we want to help alleviate some confusion, and answer those questions and concerns that we have been receiving, as the community strives to abide by Governor Hogan’s most recent Order:
What’s PERMITTED under the Executive Order:
- Staff and Owners of Businesses
- Essential Businesses = may travel between their homes and the business, and may travel to and from customers to deliver goods and services
Non-Essential Business = may travel between their homes and the business for limited operations (facilitate remote work, maintain essential property, care for live animals/perishable inventory, pick up mail, process payroll), and may travel to and from customers to deliver goods and services
- Individuals participating in Essential Activities (for self or others, including volunteers)
- Obtain groceries, supplies needed to work from home, Laundry, products for safety, sanitation, and maintenance of home
- Seek medical assistance, emergency services, medication/medical supplies
- Care for family member, friend, pets, etc. located in another household/locations
- Travel from schools to receive meals/instructional material for distance learning
- Engage in outdoor activity (walking, hiking, running, biking, kayaking, exercising, etc. (as long as social distancing is practiced, and the 10 people gathering rule is abided by)
- Travel as required by law enforcement officer or court order
- Necessary travel to and from Federal, State, and Local government buildings
What’s PROHIBITED under the Executive Order:
- Traveling, of any sort, for non-essential reasons
- Large gatherings of more than 10 people.
- Access to senior activity centers.
- Public access to non-essential businesses.
