PUBLIC SAFETY WEEKLY UPDATE
 October 30, 2023

Many of you attended our Public Safety Forum and heard me say I do not make promises. I did, however, make a commitment to provide updates on a weekly basis about town matters, particularly as it pertains to Public Safety. I am proud to share that in just two weeks, we have hired one officer. We will continue to update as our force increases. For those of you who were unable to participate in the town’s work session, the Chief reported nineteen calls for service that covered a range of incidents. For the sake of brevity and germaneness, these weekly updates will include verified crimes and quality of life concerns. Of those nineteen reports for a seven-day period, only one was a founded theft report.

What does that mean for you? It means that you want to continue to follow the suggestions Chief offered at the Forum. Be Alert. Be vigilant about closing doors, locking property, and setting alarms. Be vocal when you see something.

As we move forward with determining a permanent day for these updates and have more to share about the rebate program and safety tools that will be provided by the Cheverly Police Department, I will continue to ask for your grace and patience until we have all of the kinks worked out. For anyone interested in participating in “Trick or Treating” tomorrow, please note that the police department will be in Legion Park from 4-8 p.m., Cheverly Methodist Church will have Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m., and there is townwide trick or treating from 6-8 p.m. We will have a police presence throughout town during this time.
