Would you like to be a part of an initiative to combat health impacts due to air pollution?

Researchers at the Center for Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health (CEEJH) are trying to perform a health impact analysis in regard to particulate matter (PM) and black carbon levels near residential areas around environmental hazards in the Route 50-Sheriff Road-Kenilworth Ave Quadrant.

Who can participate?

  • Residents of Cheverly, Fairmount Heights, Seat Pleasant, Maryland, or surrounding unincorporated communities for >1 year
  • 18 years or older, speak and write English or Spanish
  • Be available for a 2-hr pulse oximeter training (including 15-20 min pre and post-survey) at the Cedar Heights Community Center on Tuesday, April 16th at 6:30 pm
  • Willing to use a pulse oximeter to record data daily for three weeks as instructed by the research team. The estimated time commitment is just 30 seconds a day

Particulate matter and black carbon can cause cardiovascular and respiratory distress.
Pulse oximetry is a method of measuring lung function.
The research team will provide you with pulse oximeters free of cost.
