8/28/2019 - Pepco to Commence Work on Trees

Pepco Tree Work

Dear Residents,

Pepco has informed the Town that it will begin tree work the week of September 2, 2019. The work is described below.

Due to recent power outages caused by trees to UM Prince George’s Hospital Center, Pepco contacted the Town to expedite their conducting tree maintenance to prevent future outages.  The most recent outage occurred in the wooded section where Greenleaf Road and Hawthorne Street dead end on the West side of Town.  A section of that area is owned by the Town.  In the area owned by the Town, Pepco will be pruning trees, removing undesirable brush under the lines, removing hazardous trees, and some trees growing directly under the lines.  These trees include 2 Black Locust, 1 Maple, 3 Mulberries, 2 Boxelders, and 1 Tree-of-Haven.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Cody Hesseltine with Pepco at 301-967-5338.  The picture shows the area where the work will occur.

Please note that Pepco is currently developing their Vegetation Management Plan for the Town of Cheverly.  The proposed Vegetation Management Plan will be reviewed by the Town Council and the Green Infrastructure Committee.  The work described above was originally planned to go forward in October 2019, but due to the urgency of power outages to the hospital the Town allowed this work to go forward after it was announced at the August 8, 2019 Town Council meeting.  Pepco worked in conjunction with Town Officials.  The larger Vegetation Management Plan will be reviewed at the September 12, 2019 Town Council meeting and the September 26, 2019 Town Council work session.
