Emergency Parking Notice
Snow Emergency Parking Advance Notice to All Residents
Effective 11:59 PM, Friday, January 23, 2026
Vehicles parked in violation of Snow Emergency restrictions may be ticketed and/or towed at the vehicle owner’s expense to ensure public safety and allow snowplows and emergency vehicles to operate effectively.
Residents are advised to plan ahead and relocate vehicles before the effective time. For updates and additional information, please monitor official Town communications
The Town is preemptively declaring a Snow Emergency in anticipation of a major winter storm and the potential for prolonged icy conditions.
Pursuant to Sec. 27-10 – Closing Streets During Emergencies and Snow Parking Restrictions, the Mayor and Town Council, or their duly authorized representative, are authorized to modify parking and traffic regulations during emergency conditions temporarily.
Snow Emergency Declaration
For this event, the Town is superseding the standard one-inch snowfall trigger and declaring a Snow Emergency in advance to allow for safe and effective snow removal operations.
Once in effect:
• Snow Emergency parking restrictions will begin at 11:59 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026.
• Restrictions will remain in effect until streets are fully plowed and safe for normal parking.
Parking Requirements During the Snow Emergency

The 3200 block of Tremont Avenue
Inwood Street between Cheverly Avenue and Belleview Avenue

1. Override existing no-parking zones
2. Authorize parking where parking is otherwise prohibited
3. Apply to streets or portions of streets where enforcement would eliminate all legal parking due to existing no-parking zones
4. Apply to streets or portions of streets that have a physical barrier or median dividing lanes of traffic

WSSC Water Boil Advisory
WSSC Water Boil Advisory
WSSC Water has issued a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) for customers in several areas of Prince George’s County following a 16-inch diameter water main break at 5540 Columbia Park in Hyattsville, near the Cheverly Metro Station. Areas include Cheverly, Seat Pleasant, Capitol Heights, and other nearby communities.
WSSC Water crews are working to close valves on the broken water main to stop the flow of water. As soon as the water is off, repairs will begin. Miss Utility must mark all underground utilities in the area before excavation can begin. Once the broken pipe has been dug up, we will be able to provide an estimated time for repairs to be completed and water service to be restored.
The BWA is affecting customers in Cheverly, Seat Pleasant, Capitol Heights, and other nearby communities. A map of the impacted area is being developed and will be shared shortly.
Customers in these areas of Prince George’s County should bring their water to a rolling boil for one minute, then cool it before:
• Drinking
• Brushing teeth
• Washing fruits and vegetables
• Preparing baby food and formula
• Making ice
• Giving to pets
All stored water, drinks, or ice made recently should be discarded.
Boiled water can be stored in a clean, covered container. Water does not need to be boiled before use for bathing, as long as it is not intended for consumption.
Customers who experienced low water pressure should boil their water as outlined above. When water is restored for customers who lost water service, water should be brought to a rolling boil based on the guidance above.
Water Distribution Stations for Customers
WSSC Water will open a water distribution station later tonight to provide bottled water to customers affected by the BWA. Locations are being assessed for accessibility and safety at this time.
The BWA is necessary following a water main break, which caused these areas to lose pressure and, in many cases, lose water entirely. When this occurs, there is an increased risk of contamination to the water distribution system. WSSC Water recommends that if you live in the affected areas, you should boil your water per the guidelines stated above.
WSSC Water will test samples from the impacted area to ensure the water is safe for consumption. Once water safety has been confirmed, WSSC Water will lift the BWA and will notify customers that the advisory has been lifted.
Check the WSSC Water website, X, Bluesky, and Facebook for updates as this situation develops. For more information, please contact the WSSC Water Emergency Call Center at 301-206-4002.

Important Information Regarding Wrong-Way-Parking Citations
Important Information Regarding Wrong-Way-Parking Citations
In May and November of 2024, a number of Cheverly residents were issued citations from the Prince George’s County Revenue Authority for parking the “wrong way” (with left wheels to the curb, facing oncoming traffic), County Code 26-127.04.C10 - Cannot Park Facing Oncoming Traffic.
The Town of Cheverly and County Council Chair Ivey’s office have been in communication with representatives from the Revenue Authority, and they have agreed to dismiss outstanding citations and refund fines already paid for citations issued within the Town of Cheverly.
If you received a citation from the Revenue Authority in May or November of 2024 for parking the wrong way, you can request a dismissal or refund by contacting Ms. Tonya James, Chief Safety Enforcement Officer, at tljames@co.pg.md.us. She will need your citation number; investigation and processing could take up to five business days.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Council Member Bryner at CMWard3@cheverly-md.gov or Town Hall at 301-773-8360.
Please note that parking facing oncoming traffic continues to be a violation in Prince George’s County. While we are hopeful that there will not be future citations for that violation, we cannot guarantee that. We continue to encourage residents to park in the direction of traffic, with the right wheels to the curb, to avoid receiving a citation from a county agency. The Town is in the process of updating our town code related to parking to ensure consistency with state and county statutes and to prevent future misunderstandings.

Let’s Drive Safer – Stop Sign Camera Pilot Program
The Town of Cheverly is taking proactive steps to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. As part of this effort, The Town Administrator and Chief have been exploring automated stop sign enforcement and have partnered with Obvio Inc. to test their stop sign camera technology. While no formal contract has been finalized, Obvio has temporarily installed cameras at key locations in town for evaluation and data collection.Camera Locations: • Forest Road at Cheverly Avenue • Kilmer Street at 63rd Avenue • Inwood Street at 63rd AvenueThese cameras are strictly part of a trial program designed to collect anonymized data and assess the extent of stop-sign running in these areas. This data will help Town staff and officials better understand traffic patterns and evaluate the effectiveness of this technology. No citations will be issued during this pilot program. The cameras are solar-powered and installed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Staff will present the results of this trial at a future Town Meeting to provide recommendations for potential next steps.
