Let’s Drive Safer – Stop Sign Camera Pilot Program
The Town of Cheverly is taking proactive steps to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. As part of this effort, The Town Administrator and Chief have been exploring automated stop sign enforcement and have partnered with Obvio Inc. to test their stop sign camera technology. While no formal contract has been finalized, Obvio has temporarily installed cameras at key locations in town for evaluation and data collection.
Camera Locations: • Forest Road at Cheverly Avenue • Kilmer Street at 63rd Avenue • Inwood Street at 63rd Avenue
These cameras are strictly part of a trial program designed to collect anonymized data and assess the extent of stop-sign running in these areas. This data will help Town staff and officials better understand traffic patterns and evaluate the effectiveness of this technology. No citations will be issued during this pilot program.
The cameras are solar-powered and installed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Staff will present the results of this trial at a future Town Meeting to provide recommendations for potential next steps.
