Emergencies
- For immediate crisis assistance, residents can call the Maryland Crisis Hotline at dial 988 for Maryland’s response services.
Maryland Department of Human Services – (child support, in-home services etc)
2-1-1 Maryland - Find community resources for food, housing, utility assistance, help paying bills, and more!
Maryland Health Connection - If you have lost your other health coverage, such as job-based coverage, you have 60 days to enroll or change plans. If you’re eligible for Medicaid or the Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP), you can enroll any time of year.
Unemployment - Maryland workers can file claims with the Division of Unemployment Insurance online.
Food Supplement Program - The Food Supplement Program helps low-income individuals purchase essential food items for their health. Eligibility is based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Thrifty Food Plan.Energy Assistance Program - The Energy Assistance unit provides bill assistance to eligible households to prevent energy service loss and assist with restoration.
Temporary Disability Program - The Temporary Disability Assistance Program offers limited cash assistance to low-income disabled individuals without dependent children and no other resources.
Capital Area Food Bank - Local food banks can be found by accessing the organization’s food bank network.

United Communities Against Poverty, Inc. (UCAP)
- Homeowners' Property Tax Credit Program
- Allows credits against the homeowner's property tax bill if the property taxes exceed a fixed percentage of the person's gross income.
Limits increases in property tax assessments for homeowners.
Cheverly Municipal Homestead Tax Credit:
The Town of Cheverly will issue a rebate if a resident has completed the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation Homeowners' Property Tax Credit Application, has been granted that tax credit, and can present written proof of that granted tax credit.
