The Cheverly Police Department is Hiring
The Cheverly Police Department is seeking individuals that exhibit the characteristics of sound judgment, honesty, reliability, integrity, and the ability to blend the philosophy of community-oriented policing with a desire to best serve the interests of the residents of the Town of Cheverly, for the following positions:
- Master Corporal
The typical duties of a Master Corporal include: enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and the Code of the Town of Cheverly, problem solving, report writing, courtroom presentation, providing effective service to residents and supervisory duties. This position also requires elementary knowledge and experience in the first-line supervision of immediate subordinates.
- Lateral Police Officer
The typical duties of a lateral officers include: patrolling assigned areas in vehicle, or on foot, responding to calls involving criminal violations, interviewing complainants, suspects, and witnesses, give general assistance to the public, investigate criminal acts in accordance with Department, maintain public peace, and protect life and property all while being tactful and conscientious.
- Police Clerk
This position performs routine but responsible data entry, general records and communication assignments, and assists other personnel when necessary. Knowledge of general standard office procedures and equipment, general business arithmetic, a high degree of social skills, and consistent business attitude, mental alertness, tact, and courtesy are required.
All positions involve contact with the community, therefore duties must be performed in a tactful and conscientious manner.
The department offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits, tuition reimbursement and a $5,000 signing bonus (for those who qualify). Shift work is required of all department employees.
