UPDATE- Power Outage Link Included

Good Afternoon Cheverly Neighbors and Friends,

Many residents experienced a power outage Wednesday night / early Thursday morning. The power outage was as a result of a lightning strike that affected up to three feeders servicing the Town of Cheverly.

Since the outage, a number of individuals shared reports of resulting damages.  We reached out to our Government and External Affairs Manager, Ms. Tami Watkins, yesterday to better understand what happened with this power outage that resulted in the types of experiences and damages residents have shared.

Please note that residents are advised to reach out to Pepco immediately at, 1-877-737-2662, regarding partial electrical service or apparent damage to the external meter or other immediate safety concerns.

Pepco asks that residents consult a electrician for any issues or concerns inside the home and that residents contact their homeowner's insurance before filing a damage claim. https://www.pepco.com/MyAccount/CustomerSupport/Pages/DamageClaim.aspx#:...
Damage Claim | Pepco - An Exelon Company
We are here to assist you should you need to file a property damage claim. Please be aware that we are not responsible for damages from factors beyond our control, such as storms or outside interference, and our responsibility for damages is governed by the terms of our tariff which imposes a limit on our liability.

We impressed upon Ms. Watkins that some affected individuals are experiencing financial hardship and may not be able to afford to bring in an electrician to assess their situation.  Outside of the "immediate call" situations, we encourage you to make contact with Pepco regarding your particular situation. The Pepco customer service number is 202-872-4641.

If you feel that your concerns have not been heard, please reach out to the Town, your Mayor, and or your Councilmember (you can find their contact information below) and we will work together to better connect you.

We have developed a form (Power Outage Link) by which you can share details of this particular incident. This form will NOT replace the Pepco reporting or claim process. It will only be to help us better understand how many households were affected and in what ways, in the event that this knowledge proves helpful in the Town seeking attention and support for constituent needs regard this incident.

Thank you and Take Care,
Laila Riazi
Mayor
