October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

For the first time ever, the Cheverly Police Department will join the Prince George's County, Office Of The Sheriff in recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year, for the entire month of October, the Cheverly Police Department will be illuminated with purple lights signifying our commitment to delivering better service, recognition, and support to victims of domestic violence. As part of this effort, we ask that our community join us in our efforts by illuminating a purple light bulb on their front porch, or in a window, to bring awareness and demonstrate our commitment to working together to recognize the signs of abuse, knowing that help is available, and where to get it.

In addition, on October 1, 2019, The Prince George's County, Office Of The Sheriff will be co-hosting their 6th annual “Purple Light Nights” Lighting Ceremony, in conjunction with Dr. Charlene M. Dukes, President of the Prince George's Community College, in the Student Center Courtyard of PGCC, located at 301 Largo Road, Largo, MD 20772. The program will begin at 7:05 PM, with the light ceremony countdown at 8:05 PM.
