Hometown Heroes
Residents, homeowners, and family members Cheverly residents who have served in one of the Armed Forces branches of the United States under the Department of Defense, the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force.

Applicants may not select the location of their banner. Placement is determined by the Hometown Heroes Committee and follows a deliberate order designed to ensure consistency.

Submissions are accepted all year long. Banners are hung in July and January of each year.

The banners are 30 inches wide by 82 inches high and are printed heavy-duty 18-ounce vinyl designed for outdoor durability. Each banner includes an image of the Hometown Hero, their name, and the official seal of their service branch.

Hometown Heroes
The Hometown Heroes program was created with the specific mission of honoring residents of Cheverly who have served in one of the Armed Forces branches of the United States under the Department of Defense, the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force. Residents are invited to submit an application for recognition of their family member(s) that qualify for the Hometown Heroes program. Submitted applications are reviewed by the Hometown Heroes Committee, who verify military service, ensuring each nomination meets program criteria. Qualified nominations are formally recommended to the Town Council for final approval. There is a $250 fee for each banner.

The banners will be displayed on poles along Cheverly Avenue and surrounding Legion Park.

The banner will remain displayed for 1 year.

Hometown Heroes
After the display period ends, Hometown Heroes Banners will be returned to the individual who submits the banner application. The display period of the banner can be extended for an additional year (up to 3 years) for a fee of $75. If no display poles are available, new submissions will be given priority. The committee will then determine whether your display is eligible for extension.

Hometown Heroes
Residents nominating a veteran for the Hometown Heroes Program are responsible for the non-refundable $250 payment associated with the banner.

Hometown Heroes
Submission for a Hometown Heroes banner must include a high-quality image. REQUIREMENTS: Front-facing portrait, service uniform (example: bootcamp picture). If you do not have a digital copy, please bring the image to Cheverly Town Hall during business hours. Town Staff will make a copy in order to maintain image quality as much as possible. Please note: your submission will not be processed without an image. Recognize that any image you submit will be enlarged to 31in by 26in.
