Cheverly to Celebrate Grand Opening of William Eley, Jr. Public Works Building
Cheverly, MD – The Town of Cheverly is pleased to announce the grand opening of the William Eley, Jr. Public Works Building on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM. The ceremony will take place at 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, Maryland.
This new facility replaces the town’s previous Public Works building, which was over 75 years old and no longer met the community's needs. The modern building provides updated and environmentally compliant workspace for staff, expanded storage for vehicles and equipment, and meeting space designed for community use.
The building is named in honor of William Eley, Jr., who in 1958 became the first African American elected to the Cheverly Town Council. Mr. Eley served for approximately a decade, dedicating his time to ensuring equitable services for all Cheverly residents and working to strengthen civic engagement across the community.
The grand opening event will feature a ribbon cutting, remarks from town officials, guided tours of the new building, and light refreshments. Community members, neighbors, and partners are invited to attend and join in celebrating this important milestone for the Town of Cheverly.
