Over the past several weeks, the Prince George’s County Revenue Authority has cited numerous vehicles within the town for parking in violation of County Code 26-127.04.C10 - Cannot Park Facing Oncoming Traffic (commonly referred to as left wheels to curb). The citation carries with it a $100.00 fine payable to Prince George’s County.
Town staff appreciates that this type of violation is not generally enforced by the Town’s Code Enforcement nor the Town’s Police Department, but the Prince George’s County Revenue Authority does have jurisdiction to enforce the County Code within the Town, including violations of this nature.
Therefore, this notice is being provided by the Town to encourage our residents and vehicle owners to please park in the direction of traffic, right wheels to curb, to avoid receiving a citation from a county agency.
The Town staff has requested a meeting with the Revenue Authority to better understand their expectations by clarifying processes and ensuring alignment as we address resident concerns.
It is important to understand that it is unlawful to dispose of an original copy or record of a citation (commonly referred to as “fixing a ticket”). It is also unlawful to solicit another to cancel a citation. The Town has no authority to make such a request.
Therefore, please assist us by parking your vehicle in accordance with the County Code. Please feel free to direct any questions to the Cheverly Police Department at 301-341-1055.
Best regards,
David Morris, Chief of Police Jennifer Krauss, Deputy Chief of Police
