The Revenue Authority (RA) of Prince George’s County issued recent parking citations in the Town. Similar to the county police, the RA has county-wide enforcement jurisdiction, including within municipalities.
Please note that neither the Town of Cheverly nor the Cheverly Police Department can cancel any citations issued by the RA or other agencies. This is against state law, specifically Maryland Code, Title 26, Subtitle 4, Section 26-408 (a) and (b), which states:
You cannot cancel a traffic citation in any way not allowed by this law.
You cannot ask someone else to cancel a citation in any way not allowed by this law.
A crucial parking rule to remember is that parking with your left wheels facing the curb is prohibited. According to Cheverly Code § 150-3 and Maryland Code, Transportation Article § 21-1001, vehicles must be parked with the right side parallel to the curb on two-way roads. On one-way streets, vehicles should park parallel to the curb in the direction of traffic, with the right wheels no more than 12 inches from the curb.
Here are some additional parking rules to keep in mind:
No parking within 20 feet of a driveway entrance to a fire station
No parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
No parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection
No parking blocking driveways
No parking on private property without permission
