Municipal Liens
Municipal liens are the result of non-payment of bills/funds owed to the Town of Cheverly.  A municipal lien is an attachment for funds placed against the property taxes for an owed debt.

For example, a resident is notified that they must cut their grass as it has reached the 8-inch limit.  The resident ignores the notice and the Town must hire a contractor to cut the grass. The contractor bills the Town and the Town makes the payment.  The property owner is billed for the grass cutting along with a 15% administrative fee.  If the property owner does not satisfy the bill within the specified time limit, the Town Treasurer forwards the amount to the County to be placed as a lien against the property.  It appears as a tax and must be paid with the annual tax bill or the property will be put up for tax sale for the amount of the lien.
