Chief’s Report

Chief Robshaw we met with SHA about pedestrian and vehicle traffic on Columbia Park Road and they were very receptive to our concerns.  The County did not come and we still need to talk to them.  Donations of vehicles can be made up to December 31st.  We are replacing our server and there have been some difficulties with our email.  It should be corrected in the next two weeks.  It is the end of the year and if you are cleaning out your medicine cabinet, you can turn them in at the station.  We also will take any weapons or ammunition that you want to get rid of for disposal.  Our violent crime is down tremendously and the overall rate is down.

Town Administrator’s Report

Mr. Warrington the Newsletter did not get out of the Post Office when it was supposed to and we are trying to find out why residents are not getting their Newsletter.  We were pretty lucky to get Cheverly Avenue paved in November with such favorable temperatures.  The raised crosswalks may not be installed until spring.

Mayor I want to address our local booms.  We have been unable to find the source of them, but we have reached out to the University of Maryland and the seismology department is going to be working with us to try to find the source.  There will be a link posted on our webpage as to where to report the booms.  They are trying to find a source via a scientific way.

Recreation Council

Mayor no report.

Green Infrastructure Committee

Mayor I attended the meeting and they are alive and well.

Cheverly Day Committee

CM Daly Cheverly Day Committee is on hiatus until the beginning of the year and look for information in the January Newsletter.
Planning Board Report

CM Eldridge the Planning Board meeting won’t meet until next Tuesday.

Citizen Input

Variance Request 6329 Joslyn Place V-147-16

Mayor we do not have a December Worksession which we will hear tonight and the hearing before the Planning Board is December 14th.

Ms. Marshall requesting a variance for a 2 story addition and it exceeds the lot coverage restrictions.  The County Planning Board would like the Town’s input.

Mayor do you have any feelings regarding the neighbors in the area.

CM Daly I have not heard any opposition to the request.

Ms. Marshall we have a deck that we are going to replace with a 2 story addition and we are 280 square feet over the lot coverage.  This is 7.5% over the lot coverage and for a set-back.  We have spoken to our neighbors and have not heard any concerns.

Mayor CM Daly if you could, could you get back to us on how all the neighbors feel regarding this variance.  I propose as a motion of the Council that we will take a position of support pending confirmation by CM Daly that the neighbors are in support of the project.

  • CM Riazi motion of the Council that we will take a position of support pending confirmation that the neighbors are in support of the project V-147-16. Seconded CM Eldridge.  Approved 4-0.
Mayor and Council Announcements

CM Coolen Saturday is the last holiday market and it should be a great day 8 until Noon.

CM Daly I want everyone to know that the American Legion will be having a great and fun New Year’s Eve event.  So come out and have fun.  It is roaring 20’s but the dress is your choice.

CM Riazi point of personal privilege I want to recognize that John Glenn passed away today.

CM Eldridge I want to thank all the volunteers for their help with the Turkey Trot.  Proceeds go to the Spelllman PTA and food bank.  I want to encourage all drivers to please drive like your kids live on Cheverly Avenue.  The Cheverly WeekDay Nursery raised about $10,000 via the house tour and it was a good time.

Mayor mentioned the VOAC project will be presented at the January Town Meeting to put a 142 bed site in the Cheverly Industrial Park.  There is an article in the Newsletter and I encourage everyone to read it and come to the January Town Meeting to hear the presentation.
