Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek offers several opportunities for individuals, groups, teens looking for community service hours, potential Eagle Scouts, Gold Award Scouts and others to work on the environment and just have fun in the great (albeit cold) outdoors. We also have several exciting events upcoming.
Sun., Jan. 2, from 1-4 p.m., and on the last Saturday of every month, including Jan. 29, from 9:30-2:00. Work on removing invasive plants and establishing a trail through Woodworth Park (behind the playground on Wayne Place). Tools are provided, but wear work gloves and sturdy shoes.
Wed., Jan. 5, 7 p.m.: Planning Meeting, Methodist Church parlor. All welcome.
Sun., Feb. 20: Participate in the nationwide Great Backyard Bird Count taking place Feb. 18-21 sponsored by the Audubon Society and other organizations. Meet Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. at the entrance to Woodworth Park (Wayne near Parkway) Sunday for directions and locations. For participation on other

Monday, Feb. 21, 7 p.m.: In conjunction with the Cheverly Garden Club at its regular meeting, conservationist Sara Tangren will present an informative slide show on native plants. Held at Cheverly United Methodist Church, in the parlor or in Fogle Hall.
Wednesday, March 2, 7 p.m.: A free workshop where you will build a rain barrel, which collects rainwater, conserving resources and saving you money. All materials and instruction provided. Held
