Supporting the  
Cheverly Green Infrastructure and Trails Study


        WHEREAS, the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Cheverly support the creation of a document and map that will help guide future development, redevelopment, and investment policy decisions in a proactive and sustainable manner within and around the Town of Cheverly;

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Town Council support the goal of providing an interconnected network of trails to areas within the Town as well as destinations outside of the Town;

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Town Council wrote a letter endorsing the submission of a technical assistance grant application by the Friends of Lower Beaverdam, a citizen’s organization dedicated to the protection of Lower Beaverdam Creek and environmental education,  to the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program at the National Park Service on August 1, 2007;

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Cheverly, joined by members of the Cheverly Planning Board and other committed Cheverly residents, participated in a meeting on August 13, 2007 related to the Anacostia River Trail system; and
        
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Town Council support the continued efforts by State, County and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning staff members to provide proposals for consideration that will ultimately provide trails throughout the region, connecting the Town of Cheverly to a wide network of regional trails; and


        NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, this 14th day of February, 2008, by the Mayor and Town Council that the Town of Cheverly accepts the Technical Assistance Grant from the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program of the National Park Service and supports this important community planning effort.
