ELECTION CALENDAR The next town election will take place on Monday, May 6, 2019. This election will be for all six Councilmember seats and Mayor.

Voters registered in Prince George’s County are automatically registered to vote in elections in the Town of Cheverly.

Call the Prince George’s County Voter Registration Hotline 301-341-7300, or download registration forms from the Maryland Board of Elections. You may also get registration forms at the Town Office.

Town Elections are held at the Cheverly Community Center, 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly.

Who may vote by absentee ballot?
» Any qualified voter

How do I get an absentee ballot?  You must apply for an absentee ballot, in writing, by 5:00pm Thursday, May 2, 2019. You can obtain an Application from the Town Office. Call 301-773-8360, write to 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD 20785, or come in to the Town Office. When the Cheverly Election Board processes your application and you are determined to be qualified, an absentee ballot will be mailed to you.  Absentee Ballots will be mailed out after the deadline for filing nomination forms.



Candidates for Mayor must be 25 years old on or before the date of election;
» a citizen of the United States;
» a registered voter; and
» a resident of Cheverly for not less than six months.

Candidates for Councilmember must be 21 years old on or before the date of election;
» a citizen of the United States;
» a registered voter; and
» a resident of Cheverly for not less than six months.  
» a resident of the Ward for which they are running, prior either to the date of filing, or 45 days immediately preceding the date of the Election in the case of a write-in candidate.  

Nomination filing forms may be obtained at the Town Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm) or download the form (see above).  Call 301-773-8360 for information.

All candidates must submit a completed Financial Disclosure form.

Completed forms must be returned to the Town Office no later than March 22, 2019, 45 days before the Election.

Photos & Profiles of Candidates must be submitted by Friday, March 22, 2019 to be included in the Cheverly Newsletter.  
» Photo should be a closeup -- must be cropped to about 2”x2”.
» Candidate Profiles must be brief (no longer than 350 words). Profiles will appear as written.  They will not be edited or corrected; however, if the profile is too long, staff will have to shorten it by cutting off at the paragraph closest to the limit.
